How To Create a Gothic Wedding

If you would like to create a gothic wedding with Victorian elements, such as a vintage wedding dress,  use your imagination and get creative! The gothic theme can help create a beautiful, ethereal wedding with unusual flair. Look to romantic and dark items for decor and attire to help make it special.

For decorating your wedding space, think of candles as your main item. Candles with flickering light can be very romantic, and create an elegant atmosphere for a gothic wedding. Wrought iron candle stands or simple clear glass hurricanes are all that is needed to display candles. If color is a concern, most gothic scenes involve the use of black. If you don’t want a wedding with too much black, think of lovely jewel tones. Flowers in dark burgundy and browns, pew ribbons in velvet crimson, and sapphire or emerald aisle runners can complete the dark look.

Vintage wedding dresses and Victorian tuxedos with tails are perfect for gothic weddings. You can find vintage wedding dresses online, or at an upscale antique consignment or resale shop. Some retro and vintage dresses for weddings will make their way to Goodwill stores, but it takes a lot of hunting to find a perfect one. Find costumers or sellers that specialize in Victorian, renaissance or flapper clothing. Some simple vintage dresses in ivory or cream can be decorated and altered for a lovely gothic wedding. Consider adding a touch of black lace or black chiffon to the train to create a gothic touch.

Complete your gothic wedding with elegant, dreamy music. Classical music with live musicians is lovely- consider simple pairings like violin and piano or guitar. Harp music is very romantic and beautiful. If you prefer to walk down the aisle to gothic music, there are many gothic bands that have love songs and poetic music that is perfect. Make your gothic wedding a beautiful event with simple candlelight, a touch of old-fashioned elements, and some romantic darkness.
