Something Old: Where to Find That Perfect Vintage Wedding Dress

Looking for quality vintage wedding gowns can be either a wonderful journey or an interesting road trip with a lot of stops going nowhere. There are some great vintage stores that offer good merchandise but, that often means that one can ending up searching through bins and racks and not come up with anything great and wasting time. Also, if you choose that route, there will be a lot of merchandise that is damaged, disclosed and poor quality and not worth refurbishing. Though this might the route of an experienced sewer and designer, it is not recommended for the person wanting a dress for their special day and not spending a lot of money. Unless you just go "whole hog Vintage", most of us just want the one conversation piece that is whimsical and meaningful.

One real good place to find some heirloom vintage pieces in wedding gowns and even small accessories are the local flea markets. At the outset, it can look as though there is a lot of junk. There may be some truth to that, but there are antique collectors who glean Saturday morning flea markets and have found goldmine treasures. It is possible to do the same thing for vintage clothing and accessories as well.  There are those vendors who have emptied Granny's attic and have brought these things to sell quickly for cash. There is an advantage in taking a look at those lots and piles of stuff. You might find the perfect wedding dress or even the fabric to make the "dress of the past" that really represents who you are.

Another great venue to find vintage clothing are the estate sales. Often clothing can be sold in lots, and by the box or the trunk. There are treasures to be found there that can be true heirloom pieces. Looking through the eyes as clothing and accessories as antiques might get you the wedding dress that is really a treasure.
